BUZZIN' 28: The Rivalry
Here in Manchester we're used to the lad band. Its in our DNA with the likes of the Mondays, Oasis and more recently the likes of Twisted Wheel, The Vortex and The Courteeners. With Brother just finishing a national sell out tour across the country despite of a huge amount of criticism they are look set to bring on the next wave of lad bands (or Gritpop as they call it).
The Rivalry are one such band from Stoke who come from a rich scene of bands we've featured before such as The Sport. Just a 3 piece that make more noise than you'd expect and on songs such as "Let's Wake Up The Sun" have a big anthem on their hands for beer boys around town. True, it's nothing new but the energy is infectious.
To date the band are ticking all the right boxes with A) Alan McGee being a fan B) Support Slots with The Charlatans and Detroit Social Club c) The backing of BBC Introducing who featured them in their firstever introducing live date at the Box in Crewe.
At the enf of February they come and headline the Roadhouse in Manchester as part of Designer Magazine's showcases and then March see's the band play the Primal Scream Afterparty in London. After that it'sTwisted Wheel and Ocean Colour Scene supports back home in Stoke.
