Carling
Weekend - Leeds Festival 2005
Regular readers of Designer Magazine will know that around this
time of year we normally bring you our extensive Leeds Festival
coverage that leaps between the unknown bands on the Carling Stage
through to the headliners on the mainstage. Over the years we've
brought you fantastic reviews of Guns'n'Roses, Eminem, Mariln Manson,
Green Day, The White Stripes, The Manics and at the time new bands
such as Do Me Bad Things, The Departure, So Solid Crew and countless
others.
Sadly
this year we are unable to bring you the reviews because....wait
for it....Orlaith from Big Brother and friends were invited to
promote Carling's Cold Beer ting and hence the ticket allocation for press was reduced. Designer Magazine has always
covered Leeds Festival because despite being sponsored by an international
corporation it was always about the music, music that challenged
you, music that was loud and in a lot of cases music that didn't
get played on daytime radio.
This
year we've provided a gallery of some of the less well known bands
that played on the Radio 1 Stage, the sort of bands you won't
find in the gossip columns of tabloids or in Heat Magazine. I'd
like to think think that next year business as usual will return
to Leeds Festival and music publications such as Designer Magazine
will be able to cover the event for what it essentially is about,
the music. But that's up to the organisers at the end of the day
and it's up for them to decide whether they want to keep true
to the spirit of Leeds or get the invite's ready for Colleen Rooney
or Atomic Kitten's Jenny Frost and sell 1 more crate of Carling
to a Sun Reader.
In true noughties style tickets for Carling Weekend 2006 are on
sale now before the line-up's even been announced. You can buy
tickets from the usual outlets
