Fopp Unsigned Awards

If you're in an unsigned band you might want to, ahem, Fopp a load of this. To be honest when we saw the email in our inbox with simply "Fopp Unsigned" for some bizarre reason we were under the impression that Fopp was a chain of shoe shops. We can blame that on not enough sleep and too much vodka because as you know Fopp is the award winning independent music retailer that knows it's Fiery Furnaces from it's Franz Ferdinand and it's Beta Band from it's Bloc Party. Chances are you won't find them playing that Tony "can you believe the c**t revived his whole career off a Comic Relief appearance and he wasn't called Lenny Henry" Christie, but a quick glance at their Top 10 reveals that Garbage, DJ Format and I Am Kloot are the best sellers at the time of going to press.

If you're in a band or a solo artist, based in the North of England (classified as Northumberland / Cumbria / Durham / Tyne & Wear in this competition), Northern Ireland and Scotland, are over 18 and write your own material get onto the Fopp website listed below because you could win the following

· Record at a professional studio for free (3 track EP)
· Have their recording, edited, mixed, mastered and pressed.
· Help design artwork for their finished CD.
· Have their music sold at Fopp Stores nation-wide as well as been given the opportunity to play exclusive in stores there, following in the footsteps of Franz Ferdinand, Tenacious D and The Rapture.

Six winners will be chosen by a panel of music industry guru's including a Dougie Bruce from Universal Publishing who works with Kaiser Chiefs and Mylo.

More information, application forms and terms & conditions are available via Fopp’s website and Deadline for applications is the 21st of May 2005.

As well as sending off demos to the Fopp Unsigned competition why not send off a demo / press pack to Designer Magazine as well. Each week we received a number of demos from unsigned bands across the world, a number of which make the grade and often sound better than what the major labels and PR companies send us each week.

So if you're in a band and think what you are doing is better than Franz Ferdinand or Bloc Party, The Killers or The Bravery, Dizzee Rascal or The Streets, Coldplay or Embrace send a demo to the Designer Magazine address below
