JACK'S NOT SMOOTH

Introduce yourselves and tell us what you've been up to recently?
Hey, this is Jack’s Not Smooth with Dil (Vocalist/Guitarist) Sweetie (Guitarist) Toast (Bassist) and Shabaz (Drummer/Backing Vocals.)

Recently we’ve been busy in the studio recording our next single “”Welcome to the Family” Said Mr Fritzl.” We’re also busy working on the music video for this new single.

And how did you get together?
Well Shabaz, Dil & Toast got together through college, and then gathered that they needed another guitarist to make the band sound, well fantastic. So Dil & Shabaz we’re posting status’ on facebook daily looking for someone, when one night the guys found a youtube channel of guitar covers and boom. Sweetie falls from the sky.

Who are your biggest influences?
We’ve been compared to bands such as ‘Flight 409’ & ‘Chunk! No Captain Chunk!’ which we all think is a massive compliment because one of our main influences is ‘Chunk! No Captain Chunk!’ along with ‘A Day To Remember,’ ‘Enter Shikari’ & ‘YouMeAtSix.’

Here at Designer Magazine we're all about supporting the scene.. which are your fave local bands and why should we check them out?
Our main favourite local band in Manchester has to be our boys in SavingSyenna, they have a great cover of ‘Call Me Maybe’ on youtube and are in the middle of recording a SECOND album which will be amazing.
Also Kids with Machetes are also a great band and also our friends in Allaira who are an excellent live band.

What's your biggest promo tips you can give to other local bands? How do you push your band forward?
On facebook, we’ve found out that if you promote other bands rather than yourself, you become a hub for other bands and become known for being such a helpful band which we’ve come to find Dead Retinas being that band.
We are always socially active on either Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr and try and come up with new ways of interacting with our fans.

Where do you go for pre gig food and where do you go post gig clubs in Manchester?
Well Dil, Toast & Shabaz always have a Boots Meal Deal before they take the stage and also have ‘Confident Juice’ just to make us loose on stage. Sweetie though, has to be the different child, always has a McDonalds. Unhealthy kid.

What do you like most about Manchester?
We think that it’s obvious that the best thing about our hometown is the Weather… Nah we’re fucking with you. The best thing about Manchester is the opportunities that can come along. So many venues to play at, so many different people to entertain and build a reliable fan base from, it’s just a great city.

Best gig you've been to of all time (and why?)
Dil: It would probably be Sum 41 (My First Gig) I was about 12-13 and they were just amazing, and I’d never been to a proper gig, their performance and the way they were on stage just made me thing ‘wow’ and I just knew that that, was what I wanted to do.

What one book would you say all of your fans should read and why?
Sweetie: Dorian Gray, it’s a great book and it was the first book that I read outside of school, also I love the idea of being able to be young forever and the idea of being invincible. And that’s why fans should read this book, to have that philosophy in life, to live young and reckless. Only got on shot at it.

Fave movie or TV show of all time?
Toast: My favourite TV show of all time, it just has to be F.R.I.E.N.D.S. It’s just so timeless and hilarious, I grew up with this programme, learning and laughing. It’s just a great show and it’s why it’s my number one.

Which football team do you support?
Shabaz: The glorious, Manchester United! My Dad was a steward for the reds back in the Mid/Late 90’s, I remember going to a bundle of games, watching the great Cantona, Beckham, Scholes and Giggsy in their prime. My favourite player though had to be Cantona, cool, slick and has an attitude that could only be acquired from a French man.

And finally we're all about the live sweaty gigs - final chance to say why we should check you out live?
Well, we’re energetic, talkative with our fans and best of all, Shabaz tells the worst jokes known to man. We also have great jumping songs that you can really get into and have hard kicking beats. So make sure to catch a show!
