Shout Out Louds - Howl Howl Gaff Gaff

Shout Out Louds are a raucous poppy rock combo from Sweden who aren't unlike a more accomplished, less thrashy Hell Are For Heroes with quotable lyrics and memorable tunes. Produced by Ronald Bood, this debut collection of songs are all worthy of your immediate attention.

"Very Loud" is a touch country-esque with the inclusion of a banjo, a much overlooked instrument, which gives it a refreshing old fashioned retro feel. The sentiments are genuine, romantic even, and the jaunty guitars and very subtle nod to Dexy Midnight Runners is a joy. "Go Sadness" has a gentle piano intro with the vocals high in the mix ala Mercury Rev and The Flaming Lips. "Shut Your Eyes" may have elements of the Cure with indie guitars and 80s style synths, but it's so damn catchy and adorable that it's impossible not to be won over.

"Howl Howl Gaff Gaff" may not be bursting at the seams with originality, but there's so much quality on offer with the confines of these eleven songs that it doesn't really matter. Not just a good debut album, this is a great album full stop.
