There's indie music, you know the sort of records you'd imagine Zane Lowe shouting all over the top of, and then there's music so indie that you imagine Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens are already fighting for the custody of as we type..... City Reign really are that indie!!!
Which is funny because they've already been declared as "our favourite new band" by King Of Indie himself Lamacq in recent months, as well as being tipped to follow in the footsteps of Delphic and Everything Everything by industry bible Music Week.
Designer Magazine first put on City Reign early on in 2010 at one of our regular showcase nights and have worked with them closely throughout the year on events such as Hungry Pigeon and the "Making Plans" single launch in September at their spiritual home Ram and Shackle. What attracts us so much to the band is that it's indie in the classic sense - everything is DIY from the poster campaigns across the city to their own record label Car Boot Records - and it always come back to the music rather than a haircut or the latest fashion trend. Obvious comparisons are to be made with early REM and Idlewild (and touches of Teenage Fanclub are to be heard), while the band themselves cite Ryan Adams (the chief songwriters in the band met at a Ryan Adams concert) and Interpol amongst others.
"Out In The Cold" is released on January 31st (preceded by a launch party at Ram & Shackle on Jan 29th) and takes off where "Making Plans" left off. Its also their strongest song in their live set which means its their biggest chance of reaching a wider audience for those who love real music with heart.
