Fidel & The Castros

Introduce yourselves and tell us what you've been up to recently?
We are Fidel and the Castros and recently we have been recording 3 new tracks that have surprised even us! There are two additional tracks that are being mastered at the moment and should be available for people to listen to in the next month or so.

And how did you get together? The name?
We got together mainly through being mates and we found Robin-guitar was in a jim hendrix cover band but we quickly found out that wasn't all he could play. We had our 1st jam and gelled straight away - made some great tunes and even came up with the name fidel and the Castros from giving examples of stupid names for 50s band i.e. jerry and pace makers. We have no communist tie or any involvement its a name that we laughed at and still find funny and it has a good ring to it so no protests. We needed a new drummer and we found Adam Packer. We wanted pace and a metal drummer who can play by throwing and catching his stick, hearing notes you didnt see him play and an all around musician seemed like the right choice and we havent looked back.......YET?

Who are your biggest influences?
Personally im a big funk, disco and blues man with a hint of dance music, not the crap that's around now but the ones that had good bass lines. The others........ You can have a listen and come to your own conclusions but it makes for an interesting combination...

Here at Designer Magazine we're all about supporting the scene.. which are your fave local bands and why should we check them out?
virgin marys - great band with an awesome live set definitely worth a watch.

What's your biggest promo tips you can give to other local bands? How do you push your band forward?
Lets just say towelly from south park would be a crap promotor - promote and then enjoy yourself..... It's all about Facebook - love it or hate it - just ask randomers, you ask 10 and maybe 1 or 2 will listen.

Where do you go for pre gig food and where do you go post gig clubs in Manchester?
I'm strictly a srajaans man, fallowfield. If you've not been then you're not full! and watch out for that chilli sauce...

What do you like most about Manchester?
football and music the two things that were good at

All united fans - utd v city 4-3 never have a been so pissed off and then so happy without a girl being involved, you know wot i mean!

And finally we're all about the live sweaty gigs - final chance to say why we should check you out live?
You should check us out because we pride ourselves on our technical abilities - we like to kick you in the balls, but also realise it very important to make the girls cry. Our completly different influences make for what i think is something fresh and new which will hopefully leave you amazed and realising you have just seen something worth remembering for a long time. We will deliver a night that no band can replicate in music experimentation and sheer power..... see you at the gigs!
