Gold Jacks
Blues rock from Manchester

Introduce yourselves and tell us what you've been up to recently?

We're Gold Jacks, a blues/rock band from Manchester formed in January 2012. Band consists of Stu Burns on vocals, Liam Dunning on guitar and Rob Miles on drums. Most recently we've headlined a number of slots across Manchester, Stockport and Liverpool and are looking forward to more shows, with September 1st at The Roadhouse, Manchester first up.

And how did you get together? The name?

The band initially formed as 3-piece back in January 2012 with Stu and Liam posting an online advert for a blues/rock drummer, enter Rob. Over recent months Tom Smith has joined the band to provide support on bass at live shows.

The name is inspired by a 1960s skiffle group out of Liverpool, 'Black Jacks', who Liams grandad used to play guitar for.

Who are your biggest influences?

We're all massively inspired by soul, R&B and rock music with influences coming from a complete range including 60s American soul and blues to more recent rock acts like The Black Keys and The White Stripes.

Here at Designer Magazine we're all about supporting the scene.. which are your fave local bands and why should we check them out?

Two words. Dirty Vagrants.

What's your biggest promo tips you can give to other local bands? How do you push your band forward?

We always try to put together custom posters for each show and make each show unique.

Where do you go for pre gig food and where do you go post gig clubs in Manchester?

Pre gig is usually a case of a couple Bierre Specials / Bierre D'Or stubbies. Post gig is lucky dip but we're keen fans of the Asian karaoke scene.

What do you like most about Manchester?

The excitement and genuine interest for new music, what ever its genre.

Best gig you've been to of all time (and why?)

The Black Keys in Liverpool a few years back was pretty mind blowing.

Fave movie or TV show of all time?

Too hard! Will drop in The Wire, but big fans of the man, the myth, the legend that is Sir Alan Partridge.

Which football team do you support?

United. The 4-3 against City where Owen bagged the winner in 'Fergie time' was amazing. Best match has to go to the final in Barcelona in '99 - 'They always score!...'

And finally we're all about the live sweaty gigs - final chance to say why we should check you out live?

We're all about new music and try to bring new songs to each gig we do so every show is different. Our next show at The Roadhouse on September 1st will have a couple of new tracks since our last show. And hopefully an EP release...
