PREVIEW Designer Magazine has brought you coverage of the Carling Leeds Festival in 2001 and 2002 and after a years hiatus in 2003 which saw the team jetting off the various corners of the globe we're pleased to bring back the Designer Magazine Leeds Festival Microsite. In the Darkness and the White Stripes they have two of the best live bands on the circuit at the moment and although the former accepted substantially less from Mean Fiddler than the reported £1 Million they demanded off Glastonbury Organizer Michael Eavis expect the biggest overblown show the Carling Festival has seen in years. On the closing day you could question the logic of the White Stripes headlining over a reinvigorated Morrissey and unless you have tickets for the MEN Arena show or the Move Festival show this will be the first time northern fans will get the chance to hear the new album "You Are The Quarry" live
With Greenday and The Offspring keeping true the original Carling rock ethos and Ash and the Hives blowing away the audience a couple of years ago it begs the question why the need for 50 Cent and The Libertines - arguably the worst artists in their specific genre's and a good time to take a well earned rest of check out one of the upcoming bands on the smaller stages.
Talking of the smaller bands the afternoons and Radio 1 / Carling Stages provide a great opportunity to see some of the upcoming talent. Goldie Lookin Chain are a blast and a reason to get up early on the Saturday to catch them on the main stage. Elsewhere Bloc Party on the Radio 1 stage should be packed to the rafters and the bands to watch on the Carling Stage this year are The Departure and The Do Me Bad Things. We're also waiting for confirmation that The Cardinals are playing the Carling Stage but if they do get down there to see the next biggest Manchester band since Oasis
